Giving Tuesday

Today is Giving Tuesday—a global generosity movement prompting the opportunity for us all to return our thanks to our communities, world, and school. This year, the Lakewood PTO would like to use this opportunity to ask your help in ensuring each Lizard receives a Lakewood Lizard T-Shirt to be able to participate in Lakewood spirit days and activities—something that has been limited in years past to students of parents who have been able to purchase shirts at a higher cost through our spirit store. In an effort to make things more equitable going forward, a local t-shirt company is offering their goods and services at cost so that every child is included and can have “P-R-I-D-E” in their “S-C-H-O-O-L!”

Please see the form sent home with your child’s t-shirt information and donation opportunities (also included on this email), if you are able. Each child will receive a shirt regardless of ability to donate. You can also use the PTO Cheddar Up donation link for giving.

THANK YOU!

With Gratitude,
Your Lakewood PTO

2021 Lakewood Fun Run

May 15 – 23

Please join us in bringing the community together and raising money for our school during the Lakewood Elementary Virtual Fun Run/Walk!

Lakewood is working hard to find ways to bring our community together during the unprecedented times we face as the result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This virtual fun run/walk is open to all, no matter your age, ability, or location!

The proceeds from this run will go toward classroom discretionary funds provided each year for our students, as well as help to sustain events and field trips for the 21/22 school year.

This past year, we are grateful to the Lakewood PTO for being able to continue the almost $4000 in annual disbursements to staff, as well as provide the community with over $6000 in gift cards to help families during the COVID pandemic.

HOW IT WORKS:
This is a virtual event, so ALL Lizards can participate from anywhere!
All you have to do is get outside during May 15 – May 23, run/walk any distance or time.
Students will receive a See Saw activity, where they can post pictures from their personal event.
Lizards can also share their experience with us on the Lakewood Facebook PTO page or email the Lakewood Front Office (lakewood@aaps.k12.mi.us).

Suggested times are as follows:
Y5-K 10+ minutes
1-2 15+ minutes
3-5 20+ minutes

We encourage Lizards to wear school spirit wear or colors during their run/walk.

You can participate by running/walking as a family or with friends.
This year, family and friends can do a lump sum donation or donate per minute that you run/walk.

Donations are NOT required to participate.

Donations can be made on the online donation page:
https://a2lakewood-pto.cheddarup.com
Donations can also be made by writing a check to the Lakewood PTO and sending it to school with your child.

What can I do to help?

While we navigate the impact that Covid-19 has on our Lakewood Families, one element remains strong: care and compassion for helping others in our community. Monday’s April PTO meeting addressed this critical matter.

Many have inquired on how they might be able to help our community. We ask those who wish to help our Lakewood families to please make a donation to Food Gatherers.

Lakewood Auction

March 6th at Polo Fields Golf and Country Club, 6:30 p.m.

The following is a link to the Lakewood Auction held on March 6th. Please come and help us to support and celebrate our school community: Lakewood Auction – Roaring 20s.

We’re also looking for volunteers to help out at the auction. Sign up for a small time commitment and plenty of fun!

Last year’s auction raised $30,000 for our Lakewood Lizard Community, 60% of our annual PTO budget! These funds are used to pay for teacher classroom supplies, field trip entrance fees and busing, events such as VIP breakfast and the Disability Awareness Workshop, and it helps to pay for a portion of 5th grade camp. In addition to these annual budget items, thanks to this community’s generosity, we have been able to pay for the rock wall in the gym, painting of the hallways and MPR, bulletin boards and a brand new teacher book room. If that isn’t reason enough to go to the auction, consider it a fun evening out to connect with other parents and teachers with dinner, drinks and dancing.
